I suppose many of You are familiar with the excellent music he's releasing under the names S1gns Of L1fe and Starterra and as one half of the duo Ascendant (together with mastering engineer, producer and musician Don Tyler). Both of them also are founders and owners of Synphaera (and its sub-labels), one of the most notable ambient / electronica labels today. In our conversation, we spoke about many topics, including Chris' musical projects, his philosophy as a curator and label owner, about AI, about spirituality in music, wildfires and Heavy Metal!

Ich hatte das Vergnügen, seine Ausstellung „Amazônia“ in Madrid zu besuchen!
Es war eine Inszenierung seiner Fotografie mit einer Klanginstallation von Jean-Michel Jarre.
Das Abtauchen in den immersiven Kosmos des Optischen und Akustischen war ein Erlebnis!

Mark de Wit (1961) bought his first synthesizer in 1979. He was member of dark space formation Purfoze, with which he also performed several times in the Brussels Planetarium.
In the new century he started playing solo under the name Rhea. Called after the Roman goddess and a moon of Saturn.
In 2013 Mark started the Cosmic Nights Festivals at different attractive locations in Belgium with the participation of several Belgian and International artists. With Johan Geens he was co-founder of B-Wave.

With his 5th performance at the Brussels Planetarium, Rhea presents his double CD „Soon“, as well as the limited edition LP „Synthober Waze“.

Dutchman Peter Dekker (1973) remembers to have music in his head constantly since he was a four-years old boy. Currently, Peter owns around 70 electronic music instruments, with which he composed and recorded an uncountable amount of music.
Sometimes he spends days or weeks on real compositions, but for his Däcker projects, Peter prefers to create music in the most direct and spontaneous way: just sit and play.
He tries to reflect his widely oriented musical taste and interests into his compositions, especially those styles you wouldn't associate with electronica in the first place, like rock, jazz and latin. Main inspirators include Vangelis, Nova / Peru, Jean Michel Jarre, Neuronium, Ed Starink and Jun Fukamachi.

Although Peter has been releasing music independently since the early 90s, Däcker's first official CD album „Pareidolia“ was released on Deserted Island Music in 2020.

His ambient side-project „Immersion in Total Emptiness“, as his alter-ego Synquentium, is a rather personal piece of ambient music, taking you through time and space, fully improvised using a Roland XP-60 synthesizer only, perfectly fitting the ambience of the Brussels Planetarium.

Remy Stroomer (1979) made his first compositions at the age of nine. Klaus Schulze (especially his period of the late 80s / early 90s) is frequently mentioned in comparison to his early musical style.
In 1999, Remy starts studying sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In the same year, his first album „Exhibition of Dreams“ sees the light.
Since his debut, Remy released several albums, did international performances, collaborated with a large number of artists, organized events, and started his Deserted Island Music record label in 2011.

The Planet of the Arps ambient side-project (which refers to „arpeggio“, Halton Arp, Alan R. Pearlman, and the Planet of the Apes franchise) evolved from the first studio version in 2010, to performances at the Zeiss Planetarium Bochum (2012) and the Ruins of Brederode (2014), and finally saw its CD release in 2019. Now, six years later, „Planet of the Arps 2“ is being presented at the Brussels Planetarium.

this Sunday (June 1st) is not only Neptun's birthday, but also the release of Home Concert 73!

This set is focused on the UDO Super-6, which I use in parts 1-3 & 5. The music starts with an Ambient track, in which I use ENSO to live loop different patches of the Super-6. Parts 2 and 3 introduce sequencer action into the music, followed by a short stop at the shores of Andromeda in part 4. The set closes with the Pro3, Matriach and Juno60 playing together, with a lead from the Super-6 on top.

this weekend I am going to release the 71th edition of my Home Concert series and a new album on Bandcamp, featuring recordings from 2022, which I never released before.
Home Concert 71 is an one hour long Space Ambient flight with sounds and sequences arranged during the performance. The liveset brings the Oberheim Xpander and my modular system back into my setup, as well as a few new software synths. Since 2016, I've been working full-time as a professional musician. Making Ambient and other electronic music is a substantial part of my life, and I'm very grateful and happy that so many people support me by purchasing my music, listening online, and engaging on YouTube and other platforms.

Over the past few months, I've thought a lot about the future and how I can bring more stability into my life as a musician. My income is highly dependent on releasing new albums in quick succession, which is problematic from an artistic point of view. I want to meet my own quality standards and create music that I feel a close emotional connection to.

I've tried to come up with a concept for a Patreon page that allows fans and listeners to support me and my work on a regular basis. The content will be centered around my music and music production. I've already uploaded an unreleased ambient track, a walkthrough video, and the synthesizer patches I used in that track.

It's important to me to mention that I will continue to release all of my music without a paywall-on YouTube, Bandcamp, and streaming services. The Home Concerts, Ambient Nights, and occasional music production videos will continue as before.

Gerade mal 2 Wochen nach der Preisverleihung veranstalten wir zusammen mit Norbert Sarrazin von den Güterhallen Solingen ein weiteres Konzert (nachgeholt vom letzten Jahr):

Breaking News! Dechenhöhlenkonzert (Axel Stupplich)

Liebe Freunde der gepflegten elektronischen Unterhaltung, es freut mich heute den Termin und die Künstler für das diesjährige Konzert in der Dechenhöhle bekannt zu geben.
Das Konzert in der Iserlohner Dechenhöhle findet in diesem Jahr am Samstag, den 15. November 2025 statt, Einlass ist wie immer um 19 Uhr.

2025 wird niemand anderes als Stefan Erbe den Abend eröffnen und somit auch sein Konzertdebut in der Dechenhöhle geben! Es freut mich sehr, mit Stefan einen der aktivsten und vielfältigsten Musiker der deutschen EM Szene auf die Bühne der Kanzelgrotte zu holen.

Das wird allerdings nicht das einzige Debut des Abends sein. Denn es ist mir eine Ehre bekannt zu geben, dass mein guter Freund und langjähriger musikalische Begleiter, Max „Maxxess“ Schiefele meinem Werben endlich nachgegeben hat, um gemeinsam mit mir das zweite Konzert des Abends zu spielen! Dieses wird, der besonderen Atmosphäre der Tropfsteinhöhle geschuldet, sicher nicht so rockig ausfallen wie unser letztes Konzert beim E-Live Festival im letzten Jahr, aber lasst Euch überraschen.
